St Peter’s Golden Ale Kit – Saison Edition

I was reading up about Belle Saison the Belgian-style ale yeast, as you do, and ended up gagging for a Saison beer. So I was thinking what is the easiest way to get to one in home brewing. I had the St Peter’s Golden Ale Kit ready to go and read online that you could, pretty much pick any golden ale and turn into a Saison, for a quick and easy fix. Aaaaannnnd … I had seen down the local chap shop that they had the Belle Saison yeast laying about, so a plan formed …
It brewed up just fine with a OG 1047 and FG 1003, so about 6%. It tasted a bit tame and somewhat homebrewy in the early days. At about eight weeks or so in, it started to taste pretty good, especially fresh out of the fridge. Good head and clear as a bell golden colour. A beer that you would happily drink on a sunny day in the garden, a good session beer after a day out in the sun cycling or walking the mutt.
Now I wonder what I could do to make it a bit more fruity and more like Saison come Abbey Ale, like which hob I would dry hob it with or …
After about 2-3 months in the bottles, this started to turn into a very good beer. Especially when it comes out of the fridge nice and cold. I think I got a summer drink sorted :)
A wonderfully dry-hopped beer with a burnt caramel finish. Lovely chilled. Refreshing.
