Coopers’ Saison Recipe
It’s a highly carbonated, bottle conditioned ale, which often displays quite funky characters such as fruity, spicy, peppery, cloves, etc. The Saaz hop addition, although not necessary and not the typical type of hop for this style, adds a little bit of extra spiciness to the finished brew. You may choose to ferment warmer than the recipe recommends to get even more funk goin’ on!
I was looking forward to this one, but I didn’t expect it to be so good and close to some of my favorite drinks, Grimbergen and Leffe.
Coopers’ Saison Recipe Ingredients
1.7kg Australian Pale Ale
1.7kg Thomas Coopers Wheat Beer
500g Coopers Light Dry Malt
25g Saaz Hops
11g Belle Saison Yeast
I made a small mistake and ordered the Wheat 1.5Kg Extract instead of 1.7Kg Wheat Beer. So I better brew this again and correctly. I pitched it at 25c and over the next day or so the temp dropped to about 17c. I lowered the amount of sugar to about 110g and at room temp the beer is rather keen in getting out of bottles.
Well they are made up for the Aussie market and they do enjoy their drinks a bit colder than we do and with a bit of “fizz” too.
