Tuborg Brewery – Classic
Brewery : Tuborg Brewery
Name : Classic
Country : Denmark
Style : Lager
ABV/VOL/ALC : 4.6%
Note from brewery :
Tuborg Classic is a bottom-fermented Vienna beer, which was introduced in celebration of Tuborg’s 120th birthday in 1993. It was the first beer in Denmark to bear the name ‘classic’, and it’s been a true classic ever since, becoming the third best selling brand on the Danish market.
It is brewed on lager, münchener, caramel and colour malt, which give it a slightly grainy, caramel-like aroma with underlying notes of blackcurrant. It goes well with veal, pork, chicken, grilled fish and classic dinner recipes with beef. You’ll also enjoy it with pasta dishes with tomatoes, root vegetables and mashed potatoes. Danish and white cheeses, fried herring and smoked mackerel.
Cumberland Ale has won silver in 2009 and bronze in 2010 International Beer Challenge.
Note from taster :
The Classic really got me into drinking different beers. I had grown up to just drink and like lager, Turborg Grøn was the the favourite in our family. The odd times we got to taste other Danish lagers like Vip, Thor and Harboe and the like. Which was pretty much it when it came to drinking beers in Denmark. It was unheard to have Ales and Bitters and Stouts when I started to drink beer. Tuborg Classic came out and showed me and many other Danes, I’m sure, that there is a whole world out there, that needed to be sampled. I had tried a few foreign beers before, mainly German style lagers and the odd to say the very least English ale.
I honestly I do think that the arrival of Tuborg Classic started the new renaissance of beer making and drinking in Denmark. I have been living outside Denmark for many years now but love it every time I go back to visit. Because there is now a whole row of different Danish and foreign breweries with many different styles of beer on display in the supermarkets. Where BTC, Before Tuborg Classic, you pretty much had the choice of Tuborg or Carlsberg lager and if you were lucky, there was a local brewery, that had survived Carlsberg take over bid.
