Tuborg Brewery – Den Store Tuborg
Brewery : Tuborg Brewery
Name : Den Store
Country : Denmark
Style : Lager
ABV/VOL/ALC : 4.7%
Note from brewery :
The story of Tuborg starts in Hellerup, north of Copenhagen, where the Tuborg Brewery brewed Denmark’s first pilsner-type beer in 1880 and packaged it in bottles with a distinctive green label. It became instantly popular with the Danes and has since grown to become Denmark’s best selling beer.
Note from taster :
I grew up on this beer, and Faxe Fad, and truly the one and only, the best lager and not properly the best beer in the world. Den Store Tuborg is pretty much just a 500ml version of the normal Tuborg Grøn.
The label is a poster painted by Erik Henningsen and is called “Den tørstige mand” (the thirsty man). This poster is very famous in Denmark and you will often see it in pub and restaurants and private homes. I for one have one hanging on the wall :) And this is where the saying comes from “A thirsty man never thirst”, meaning that you always got a beer and know how to open a beer :)
