The Great Craven Beer Festival 2016
The Great Craven Beer Festival at the Craven Arms and Cruckbarn 2016 was Yorkshire vs Northumbria and what a jolly night it was. I enjoyed some half’s and a few pints of the 24+ ale on tab.
Wylam Brewery – Collingwood Pale Ale – Pale ALe – 4.1%
Allendale Brewery – Golden Plover – Golden Ale – 4%
Black Sheep Brewery – Baa Baa Pale Ale – Pale Ale – 4%
Credence Brewery – Credence Blonde – Blonde Ale – 4%
Box Social Brewery – Pale Ale – 4.2%
Almasty Brewery – The Americans – Pale Ale – 4.2%
Rudgate Brewery – Valcyrie APA – Pale Ale – 4.1%
Leeds Brewery – Pale ALe – 3.8%
Hadrian Border Brewery – Farne Island – Amber Bitter – 4%
Firebrick Brewery – Blaydon Brick – Golden Ale – 3.8%
Sadly some taps ran out while there, so I had to double back and check that I tasted right :)
I must say that, the away team put up a strong brew this year and that my favourite was The Americans from Almasty Brewery, a brilliant IPA. Right up there with the hoppy and fruity IPA’s I tried in the USA.
The result are in (taken from Craven Arms Facebook page) – “This years Beer Festival results are in, voted for by you. Joint 1st Hadrian Border Brewery – Farne Island & BAD Brewing Company – Comfortably Numb. 2nd Settle Brewing Company – Ribblehead Bitter & 3rd Big Lamp Brewery – Keelman Brown. Yorkshire got the best county but only by 18 votes. Well done all & thank you all the breweries & to the guests for coming.”
The Farne Island was my second choice sadly I never got to taste the Comfortably Numb as the pump was dry by the time I got to it.
All this hard work had to be washed down with some pies and mushy peas from the brilliant kitchen at the Craven Arms, of don’t forget to get a portion of chips – can’t go wrong with that for a quid.
See you next year.
